Founded in 2000 by Shandel Slaten, True Life Coaching has coached clients to find their purpose, live out their goals and improve their relationships and lives. We collaborate with people to develop and leverage their unique talents and leadership skills to achieve powerful results in a short amount of time.
Our coaches are available for a variety of purposes. Some clients benefit from group coaching situations while others thrive in a one-on-one situation. Some of the many different options available are described below. We invite you to contact us for more information on how coaching can deliver the results you are searching for.
Private coaching : Private coaching is available after an initial interview in which we identify your vision and goals. We will discuss your current opportunities and obstacles. Finally, we will define key coaching concepts and your expectations as a client. After that, we will meet at regular intervals. Typically, we meet with our clients on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Executive coaching: Executive coaching is a higher level of personal coaching where there is less of an agenda to accomplish a goal and more of an agenda to achieve greatness.
Situational coaching: Are you at a strategic point in the growth of your business? Could you improve your communication skills with key people in your life? Have you ever considered using an outsider as a sounding board? Our coaches are available to help you review your options, bring a fresh perspective to your situation, and be that unemotional third party during this key time in your business and life.
Classes: Our workshops allow you to experience coaching with the added benefit of a limited group setting. This class is regularly attended by a group of your peers: executives, managers, and small business owners who want to experience coaching and the changes it brings to their lives. Group members benefit from dynamic discussions led by Coach Shandel Slaten, whose coaching both inspires and holds members accountable. Group members also leverage knowledge and support from one another. Through a series of assessments, group discussions, goal setting, and behavior modification, you can realize your full potential in both your personal and professional life.
Group coaching sessions : Do you manage a group of people that have hit the wall? Are you under a tight deadline and suffering from personality conflicts within your group? Sessions with our coaches can teach members of your group to communicate better, resolve conflicts, and learn to say what they mean and mean what they say.

At True Life, Inc., discussions often touch on the topic of relationships, and whether we are givers or takers. Do we focus on our needs, or do we seek to meet the needs of others? Jenny Bookamer likes to remind us of the clearest indication: how do we listen?
Jenny is a listener—but that doesn’t mean she’s inactive or passive. True Life Inc. would grind to a halt without her! No, Jenny has an amazing gift of asking questions about other people’s thoughts, needs, and desires so that she can find creative and effective ways to assist as she has been doing daily with Shandel Slaten and Mary Beth King and the many clients of True Life since 2003.
Jenny takes that listening skill to another part of her world where she is a childbirth educator in the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth and a birth doula (a doula is a nonmedical person who provides assistance and emotional support to a woman before, during, or after childbirth as well as her partner and family).
“We all have something to contribute in our sphere of influence,” says Jenny, who with her husband of 23 years, Ken, is proud mother to two daughters. The family enjoys gardening, hiking, board games, their horses, and being involved in their North Idaho community. “Start being an intentional listener and an effective giver and see what a difference YOU can make!”
Lisa Kitzmiller has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and over-the-top work ethic. At 10 she was selling products door to door to buy her first Pac Man game system. Right out of high school Lisa started her own manicuring business, and bought her first home at age 19.
Now through marketing and social media Lisa is helping True Life Inc. help entrepreneurs, CEOs, business leaders and individuals pursue their dreams, and she loves it.
From a very young age, all the way through high school, I played basketball, volleyball and softball. It was here where my first experiences with the word “coach” or “leader” was formed. It didn’t take long to be able to identify leaders who were poor, had potential and those who great and already there!
Working under the leadership of TLC has helped me to recognize when businesses are healthy, and when there is a need. I have witnessed companies who have been impacted by the work of Mary Beth and Shandel , and it puts a smile on my face to see such successful transformations.
The joys in my life are my high school sweetheart, Darren, two teenage children, and my goofy dog. We spend many busy days supporting our kids and their sports, so in the quite times, I enjoy gardening, hiking and spending time with my family and friends.
I never expected Lake Tahoe and Reno to consume such a huge space in my heart…But it has.
